Elmdene Takes Hands-off Approach to Access Control with IR Exit Devices at IFSEC 2012

The IR exit devices can be tailored to specific end user requirements, for instance the standard colour indicators - red for standby and green for activated - are reversible by means of a simple jumper. In addition, it is possible to adjust both the latch time within the 0.5 to 20 seconds range and the trigger distance so it is anywhere from 3 to 12 cm - with a 25% margin. This ensures that these elements are in line with what best suits a particular application. As the dimensions of the exit devices are based on a standard UK switch size they should be an attractive option for both retrofit and new build projects.
Crucially, the Elmdene IR exit devices have been designed so they will not interfere with other IR-based systems which may be operating in their vicinity - a key consideration in many of the locations where they are likely to be deployed. In terms of product life, Elmdene expects the IR sensor to deliver one hundred thousand hours of operation which corresponds to more than 11 years. Alongside this, the lifespan of the relay mechanism is anticipated to be in the region of one million operations. For fault-finding a sophisticated micro controller is integrated into each device. This is able to run a self-diagnostic test on power up so if there is a problem it can be flagged-up.]
Said Justin Roberts, Sales and Marketing Director at Elmdene International Limited: "We believe that the IR exit devices will prove to be a smart solution for a wide range of situations where there is a need to control access and to prevent germs or dust being brought into a clean environment. Cases in point are hospitals and care homes where the immune systems of patients can be extremely low and so preventing an infection being spread by hand contact with conventional exit buttons is paramount. This is something that isn't an issue with our IR exit devices." |
